Punjab Kings have assembled an experienced and accomplished backroom staff for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

The 2014 IPL finalists have appointed World Cup-winning coach Trevor Bayliss as the head coach for the upcoming edition of the IPL.

Bayliss guided the England cricket team to their maiden 50-over World Cup title in 2019. The New South Wales-born First Class cricketer has also coached the Sri Lankan team between 2007 and 2011, helping them finish as the runners-up in the 2011 ODI World Cup.

The 59-year-old has previously coached Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. Under the leadership of Bayliss, KKR clinched the IPL title twice in 2012 and 2014.

Bayliss also has the experience of coaching the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League. He helped the Sixers bag the BBL title in the 2011-12 edition and also lift the CLT20 title the same year.

Backing him up will be former Australian wicketkeeper-batter Brad Haddin as assistant coach for IPL 2023.

Haddin was part of Australia’s World Cup-winning squad at the 2015 ODI World Cup. Having made his international debut in a One-Day International against Zimbabwe in 2001, the flamboyant cricketer represented Australia in 126 ODIs, 34 T20Is and 66 Tests.

Haddin has previously served as the fielding coach of the Australian team in 2018 and was appointed as an assistant coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2019 IPL.

Additionally, Punjab Kings have reappointed former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer as batting coach.

This is Jaffer’s second stint with the Punjab Kings, after having previously joined the backroom staff in 2019. He has also served as the batting coach for Bangladesh and also been appointed head coach of Uttarakhand and Odisha in the Indian domestic circuit.

Furthermore, the franchise has appointed former South African pacer Charl Langeveldt as the new bowling coach for IPL 2023.

Langeveldt has served as the bowling coach of South Africa and Bangladesh previously.

With a new coaching staff and a newly-appointed captain in Shikhar Dhawan, the Punjab Kings will aim to add more depth to the squad in the upcoming IPL 2023 auction in order to guide the franchise to the elusive IPL title.
