Punjab Kings slumped to their fourth defeat in the 2021 VIVO Indian Premier League on Monday, as they were beaten by five wickets by Kolkata Knight Riders at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The defeat leaves Punjab closer to the bottom of the table than the top, as they have now amassed just four points after six games.
Nevertheless, the mood in the Punjab Kings dressing room remains upbeat, as reiterated by their fast bowler Chris Jordan. “We have been having very, very good conversations as a group, and I think we are very close to putting together the perfect game,” said Jordan in the post-match press conference.
“At some point of the tournament so far everyone has done a decent job with the ball, and done a decent job with the bat. It is just a matter of bringing that entire performance together and you should hopefully see us climb up that table once again,” added the English pacer.
“Now is not the time to put your finger on what was the cause of defeat today. I think when we have a debrief and when we start to dissect the game, we’ll come up with our answers. But the mood in the camp is still very upbeat, we are looking forward to playing our next three games here in Ahmedabad. One game at a time always,” he added.
Jordan’s words were echoed by Punjab Kings skipper KL Rahul, who believes his team will learn to adapt better to this venue in the coming games. “We have three more games here, hopefully we learn from our mistakes and try and correct them soon, keep our heads high and try working harder and harder for those two points every game,” said Rahul in his post-match interview.
