It has been a great start for Kings XI Punjab in the VIVO Indian Premier League this season as they have notched up three wins from a possible four. After yet another devastating show of power hitting by Chris Gayle last night, here are some numbers from the home game against Sunrisers Hyderabad that helped the team secure a clean sweep at Mohali with three wins from three matches.
Hail Gayle
After a scintillating half century in his first match, there was only one thing that Chris Gayle could have done to better that – score a century – and that’s exactly what he did! An unbeaten 104 riddled with one four and 11 sixes. This was the Universe Boss’ 6th IPL century, and his 21st T20 century overall. In pale comparison, the next best is 7 T20 centuries – a record shared by Michael Klinger, Luke Wright and Brendon McCullum.
Apart from being the highest score in the IPL this season, this was also the highest score against SRH in IPL history.

Not a bowler’s day
Mohali has pitches typically conducive to batting. Last night’s match was no different as the batsmen had a field day, and some of the best bowlers in the business went all over the park. In fact, three of the most expensive spells of the season were in this match.

Mohit Sharma | 4 | 51 | 2 | 12.75 | KXIP | SRH | Mohali |
The usually economical Rashid Khan is currently the highest ranked T20 bowler in the world, but such was the day that he went for a mammoth 1/55, hence making it the fourth most expensive figures by a bowler at Mohali.

Making merry at Mohali
KXIP have two home venues this season in Mohali and Indore. With all three games at Mohali played out, the sher-e-Punjab would be glad that they could muster up a perfect record and maintain a 100 percent home record before heading to Indore in a couple of weeks. Also, the 200th T20 match in captain Ravichandran Ashwin’s career, the team put their hands up and played out a brilliant game to give him the perfect gift.
KXIP finally won a match against SRH at Mohali for the first time – having lost the previous four, and also secured a win against them for the first time since 2014. This was also the first time this season that the SRH bowling attack conceded more than 150 in an innings.

With some great momentum picked up at Mohali, KXIP will now be looking on to conquering other venues as they play three away games before heading to their second home venue at Indore.
